In response to the devastating floods, the Kenya District Disaster Response Committee mobilized resources to assist affected families in Nairobi County.


The Kenya District, through the constituted 'Disaster Response Committee,' fundraised and coordinated relief efforts to support victims of the catastrophic floods that struck Nairobi County.

Disaster Impact

According to data from the Kenya Government Disaster Response Team, the four-week-long flooding resulted in:

  • 291 deaths

  • 188 injuries

  • 278,380 people displaced

  • 412,760 people affected

These statistics highlight the severe humanitarian crisis that ensued, displacing thousands and leaving many without access to basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. The urgency of the situation required a swift and large-scale response to mitigate suffering and aid recovery efforts.

Relief Efforts

The collected funds were sourced from:


  • Local Contributions

  • International Support

These funds enabled the Disaster Response Committee to assist 100 families most affected by the floods in Nairobi County. The beneficiaries were distributed as follows:

  • Mathare Valley - 34 families

  • Kiambu Slums - 33 families

  • Mukuru Fuata Nyayo Slums - 33 families

Activities Conducted

  • Donation of clothes to the affected families.

  • Provision of foodstuffs to ensure food security for displaced individuals.

  • Issuance of vouchers to help families purchase essential supplies for rebuilding their lives.

This initiative was made possible through the support of the following Y Service Clubs:


  • Triple Y Service Club

  • Kakamega Service Club

  • Kitui Y's Men Club

  • Nairobi Metro Service Club

  • Nairobi Y's Men Club

Community Impact & Way Forward

The relief efforts brought immediate relief to affected families, restoring a sense of stability amidst the crisis. However, long-term solutions such as climate resilience programs, improved drainage systems, and sustainable housing projects must be prioritized to mitigate future disasters.

The Kenya District remains committed to continued disaster preparedness and response initiatives to ensure that vulnerable communities receive timely support in times of crisis.
